Tapping as Self-Care for Activists

This week I’ve heard from so many of my activist colleagues about how tired they are, both physically and emotionally. Some of them are even getting more frequent headaches and are getting sick more often. This is really common- every time our stress response is activated, we have an initial burst of energy, and then our nervous system crashes, taking our energy levels along with it. So you can imagine that when you’re facing setbacks, frustration, anger, and even violence on a regular basis, and your body is constantly in (or recovering from) ‘fight or flight’ mode, there’s only so long you can go on in stress mode before something has to give.

As a trauma-informed tapping practitioner, I teach tapping as self-care for people in the social justice movement all the time- for both physical and emotional symptoms. Watch as I demonstrate how to tap on a stress-related physical symptom.
